The shortest week of the year
This is the shortest week of the year. Because it has only three days. The
first was Monday. That was day the High Court granted bail on the Radhakrishnan
case. The second day of the week is Thursday. That will be the all-important
Supreme Court hearing on the bail application for the Shankaraman case.
The last day of the week will be Friday when Maha Periaval's aradhana takes
place and we will watch with great anxiety to see if Periaval is given
leave to perform his religious duties.
I have no question of his innocence. I accept it with the same confidence
that I turn east in the morning to look for the sun. I have faith in the
Supreme Court. These two factors leave me hopeful that this week will be
short but sweet. It will be sweet relief to watch the crowded Vellore cell
quietly empty out as we each silently pick up our wounded hearts, deposited
with that Saint these last two months, and follow Him out of Central Jail.
However, the war has just begun. A man was murdered, our Periaval stands
accused, our muttam stands besmirched. We have to stay involved in understanding
the dark forces that are working against us. We have to stay connected and
most importantly, we have to work together in fighting these forces with
intelligence and determination. We cannot be complacent. Periaval and the
muttam have always been there for us. We have to understand that not everybody
wishes it to be that way and have to be alert in guarding our most precious
beliefs. We have to stay in this for the long haul.
So when we see that smiling beloved face exit from the Police van and enter
the muttam, let us wipe that tear, smile, allow our life to catch up with
us...but this time with a difference...we are all signed on to making sure
this never ever happens again to our Guru and to our Muttam.
