Thursday February 17 2005 00:00 IST
KANCHEEPURAM: The District Sessions Court at Chengalpet posted to Thursday a final decision on a petition for anticipatory bail filed by a Kancheepuram Bar Association member on Wednesday.Bar Association member Nadira Banu moved a petition for anticipatory bail after Ravi Subramaniam, an approver in the Sankararaman murder case, complained to Kancheepuram Judicial Magistrate G Uthamaraj that he was threatened by her and colleague Revathi when they visited him at the sub-jail and demanded that he turn against the police in the case.
The Kancheepuram Bar Association is boycotting the court for three days in this connection demanding action against those responsible for the complaint against the duo. When the petition came up for hearing on Wednesday, judge G Akbar Ali posted the decision to Thursday.
PLEA DISMISSED: The District Sessions Court at Chengalpet dismissed the bail pleas of two “fake accused’’ in the Sankararaman murder case on Wednesday.
Bail for Sekar and Devaraj was moved by their lawyer Darwin Wisdom, who in his plea stated that all the main accused in the murder had already been released on various grounds. Since the duo were only fake accused and not real accused, they should be released on bail.
Public Prosecutor K Arumugam stated that though they were ‘fake accused’ they were the first ones to have got arrested. They were involved in the case as they had received money and hence their petition should be dismissed.
District judge G Akbar Ali dismissed the bail petitions of the accused.
