Kumbakonam: Sri Jayendrar while inaugurating the procession held as part of the Mahaswamy Centennial celebrations asked everyone to follow Sri Mahaswamy’s path.

Kanchi Maha Periava’s centennial celebration has been celebrated at Kumbakonam for the past two days. Sri Jayendrar inaugurated the procession yesterday and said:
“ Every family has a father and mother. Parvathi and Parameswara are the parents for the whole world. All of us who come under that paramparyam are brothers and sisters. Every family has a guru. Adi Sankara remains the guru for the whole world.
Adi Sankara was born before two thousand years ago, obtained sannyas at the young age of eight, traveled around the world to rejuvenate Hindu dharma in his 32 years of life. Later, he established Kanchi Sankara mutt and did prathishtai of Sri Chakram and reigned over the Kamakoti Peetam.
Our Swamigal belongs to that lineage. Mahaswamigal, who was the 68th Peetathipathi was born at Vizhuppuram. Vizhuppuram means to wake others up. He obtained sannyas at the young age of 13 and came to Kumbakonam. When there were problems for the Kanchi mutt about 250 years ago, the Tanjore kings at that time helped to build the mutt at Kumbakonam in the banks of the river Cauveri.
We had planned to celebrate Maha Periaval’s centennial celebrations here. But a lot of things got delayed and we are doing it now. In every person’s life, after mother and father, Guru holds a high position. If any wrong is done to God, he will forgive the person. It is Hindu culture to correct the person who does wrong to his Guru. Similarly, we have to follow the footsteps of our guru Mahaswamy.
He lived his life according to the Shastras. He was well versed in Vedic scriptures. The schemes he had implemented were geared to benefit the people. Pidi Arisi scheme, Village Pujaris Scheme etc are his ideas. It is Maha Periava’s wish that every action taken should be according to our Dharma.”
