Devotees participate in Procession of Kanchi MahaPeriava’s Paduka

Kumbakonam: The Satapthi Mahotsava procession of Kanchi Maha Periava started from Kumbakonam Mahamagam tank yesterday. The Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam is 2500 years old. Sri Kanchi Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Swamigal ascended the Peetam when he was thirteen years old. The celebration of the centenary of his ascension to Peetam is being celebrated all around the country. He had stayed in Kumabakonam for a long time and conducted Vyasa puja, yegnas and homams and blessed his devotees. The citizens of Tanjore, Nagai and Thiruvarur districts have got together to celebrate the centennial year.
On this occasion, silver coverings weighing about 10 kilos of silver were offered to the jeeva samathis of the 62nd, 63rd and 64th Peetathipathis by Kanchi Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal. Earlier, special abhishekams were performed to Maha Periava’s padukas and the procession was started from the Maha Magam tank by Kanchi Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal. Sri Maha Periava’s picture and padukas were kept in a decorated silver chariot.
Various items in the procession were planned to reflect the diverse culture of India. The procession included Maha Periava’s picture accompanied by people costumed as Parvathi and Sivan, gypsies, folk dances like Karagattam, Tappattam, bands, horses, cows, Ekkalam, Tavil, Kurutholai chapparam, palanquin used by His Holiness. A digital banner was carried that was as long as a kilometer. Hundreds of Vedic scholars, bhajan groups, thevaram groups, seven caged vehicles as well as many ancient vehicles never seen before were part of this procession. The route of the procession went through Gandhi Road, Ucchi Pillayar temple, Gandhi park, government school and reached Sankara mutt. People from various communities including Jain Sang, Dalit organization and TAMBRAS participated in this celebration. Prominent persons like Rangaswamy Moopanar, Vishwa Hindu Parishad District Chairman Swaminathan, Jan Kalyan secretary Ilangovan, Kadalar District Chariman Narayanan and Thiruvannamalai Kollimalai Swamy Babaji Siddhar participated in the celebrations.
