NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to the Tamil Nadu government on a petition filed by Kanchi Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati seeking change of the public prosecutor in the Sankararaman murder case being tried at a Pondicherry court.

A bench comprising Justice Arun Kumar and Justice Tarun Chatterjee directed the state government to file its reply within two weeks on the allegation by the seer that the public prosecutor of Tamil Nadu was acting in a biased manner.

The court fixed the hearing for early April.

The seer has sought that the trial be conducted by a public prosecutor from the Union Territory of Pondicherry.
