April 25th, 2007

Madurai: The First fast track court at Madurai has issued a non-bailable warrant for the immediate arrest of SP Premkumar.

Nallakaman of Madurai had filed a case against Premkumar for assaulting and dragging him and his son at Vadipatti. Acting on a complaint from Bhairav Singh, owner of the house where Nallakaman was a tenant, Premkumar allegedly tortured Nallakaman and his son and also filed a murder case against them. Meanwhile, Nallakaman filed a case against Premkumar. The court found both parties guilty in the individual cases. Premkumar filed an appeal against the judgement on him with the High Court branch in Madurai. The High Court sentenced Premkumar and four of the accused to one month imprisonment. Premkumar appealed against this judgement with the Supreme Court who granted exemption for his surrender until disposal of the SLP.

The papers from the High court were sent last night to Madurai Fast track court for processing. Premkumar’s lawyers conveyed the Supreme Court’s decision to Judge Bhupalan. The judge, saying that the court had not received any directives from Supreme Court, issued non-bailable arrest warrants against all of the four accused. He ordered the police to arrest them immediately.

Plans to Surrender:

In the meanwhile, it is heard that Premkumar is contemplating on surrendering in order to avoid being arrested. He is consulting his lawyers in this matter and is expected to surrender in Madurai High Court by the end of the day.

A senior police official in Madurai has said that the arrest warrant issued by the court has not reached their hands as yet. If it is received by the evening, they would be immediately arresting Premkumar and three others.

Why is Premkumar Not yet Arrested?

Velmurugan, a MLA from the PMK party raised a question in the assembly today asking why SP Premkumar, who made a sensational arrest of Sri Jayendrar has not yet been arrested?

He commented that the previous administration had filed several false cases including one against himself by Premkumar. He had been suspended for filing one such false case. He added that the High Court had given him a just punishment and requested this government to dismiss Premkumar while wondering wonder why he has not been arrested yet.
