Charges framed against Kanchi Seer; trial to begin from August 27

CHENNAI: A sessions court in the city on Monday framed the charges against Kanchi pontiff Jayendrar and ten other accused in the auditor Radhakrishnan assault case.First Additional Sessions Court which framed the charges, declared that trial in the case would begin on August 27.
All the eleven accused including Jayendrar, mutt manager Sundaresa Iyer, junior pontiff Vijayendrar's brother Raghu and Appu appeared before the court while accused-turned-approver Ravi Subramaniam was produced from a sub-jail in Kancheepuram, where he has been lodged.
Replying to the questions posed by sessions judge Mohamed Issath Ali on the charges levelled against them, Jayendrar told the court that he had no connection whatsoever to the case and Sundaresa Iyer contended that it was a false case while accused pleaded they were not guilty. Later the court extended Ravi Subramaniam's remand.
The case is pertaining to an incident allegedly occurred on September 20, 2002, in which Radhakrishnan, a former mutt-associate, his wife and servant were attacked by a gang at his residence in Mandaveli.
As many as 81 persons were listed as witnesses on behalf of the prosecution in the case.
