March 20, 2006, Chennai, Pondicherry

A petition on behalf of Jayendrar has been filed in the Supreme Court, seeking a stay on Tamil Nadu Government’s Public Prosecutors appearing in the Sankararaman murder case.

The Sankararaman murder case came up for hearing before the Pondicherry Sessions Court today. 22 persons, including Sri Jayendrar and Sri Vijayendrar were personally present.

Sri Jayendrar’s counsel Venkateswaralu stated that they have filed a petition in the Supreme Court, seeking a stay on the appearance of Tamil Nadu Government Public Prosecutors and requested therefore to stop framing of charges.

Intervening, Tamil Nadu Government Public Prosecutor Balasubramanian said that there was no relation whatsoever between the petition filed in the Supreme Court and the framing of the charges.. He further demanded that all the 24 accused in the case be personally produced through a warrant the very next day.

Jayendrar’s counsel protested vehemently against this.

After hearing the arguments from both the sides, Judge Chinnapandi adjourned the case to the 28th of this month.

Appu and Kathiravan’s petition dismissed

In the meanwhile, the Madras High Court dismissed the petitions of Appu and Kathiravan wherein they had asked for the copies of their charge sheets translated to their mother tongue.

In the Sankararaman murder case all the 24 accused have been given the copies of the charge-sheet, Of these Appu and Kathiravan had petitioned the Madras High Court, Appu for a copy of the charge sheet translated in his mother tongue Telugu, and Kathiravan, in his mother tongue Tamil.

Justice Jeyapal pronounced his order on these petitions.

He mentioned in his order dismissing both the petitions, that since counsels of both the petitioners knew English, in which the charge sheets have prepared, there is no need for translation.
