Chennai: The Chennai High Court has ordered conditional bail for five more persons accused in the murder case of Sankararaman, manager at Varadaraja Perumal temple at Kanchipuram.
Sankararaman was murdered at the temple office in the year 2004. Kanchi Sankaracharyas Sri Jayendrar and Sri Vijayendrar along with Raghu, Appu and twenty others were arrested in association with this case. Sri Jayendrar, Sri Vijayendrar, Appu and ten others were granted bail and released.
Currently, Anilkumar, K.S.Kumar, Anandkumar, Kadiravan and Jinna, held at Kadalur prison had appealed to Chennai high court requesting bail. During the hearing for the bail petitions, Durariaj – the counsel representing the government argued against bail as all five were directly involved in the case.
The defence attorneys argued that the main accused themselves were out on bail in this case.
Justice Raghupathy accepted their argument and ordered bail to be given to the five petitioners. He set the bail at Rs.10,000, payable at the Kanchipuram criminal court..
They were ordered to stay at Pondicherry and required to sign the court daily pending further instructions.
