Jayendra Saraswathi appears before SIT

KANCHEEPURAM: Kanchi acharya Jayendra Saraswathi, who was granted anticipatory bails in the Tirukottiyur Madhavan assault case on February 24 by the Principal Sessions Court, Chennai, and in the Ravi Subramaniam intimidation case on March 10 by the Madras High Court, on Saturday appeared before the Kancheepuram SIT to fulfil a portion of bail conditions.

The seer appeared before the investigation officer by 2 p.m. and soon after presenting himself before the team, departed for Kalavai by 2.30 p.m.

When the court granted anticipatory bails to the Kanchi Acharya, it ordered him to present himself before the SIT on Saturdays between 2 p.m. and 3 and as and when required.

Earlier on March 14, the seer surrendered before the Kancheepuram court to fulfil his anticipatory bail conditions. Then he furnished bonds and his devotees submitted sureties.

Jayendra had obtained an anticipatory bail in Tirukottiyur Madhavan assault case after the SIT took over the investigations from Thousand Lights police station, Chennai, in December 2004.

Likewise, he had obtained another anticipatory bail in Ravi Subramaniam intimidation case after Subramaniams's wife Chitra lodged a complaint with the Siva Kanchi police station on February 21.
