Defamation case filed against Joshi

CHENNAI: On behalf of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, a defamation suit has been filed in the City Civil Court, seeking to punish former Union minister and BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi for his alleged remarks with regard to the arrest of Kanchi acharya Jayendra Saraswathi in connection with the Sankararaman murder case, on Friday.

According to the suit filed by City Public Prosecutor T V Ganesh, Joshi, who the acharya at the Vellore Central Prison on November 14, 2004, made certain comments against the State Government with regard to the arrest.

The remarks were per se defamatory, the suit said and sought to punish Joshi.
