Madurai, April 15. 2007

SP Premkumar, who was convicted in the Nallakaman case, has been dismissed.

Nallakaman, 74, a retired soldier, had been leasing the house of Bhairav Singh, a policeman. Bhairav Singh had asked Nallakam to vacate the house and had lodged a complaint in the Vadipetti Police Station where Prekumar was Sub Inspector. (He was was promoted later to DSP and SP and was the enquiry officer in the Kanchi Shankaracharya case.)

Premkumar summoned Nallakaman to the police station, handcuffed both Nallakaman and his son who came to the station and dragged them on the steets. He also registered a case against Nallakaman, accusing him of making an attempt to murder him (Premkumar).

The collector initiated an RDO enquiry over this incident. Nallakaman also filed a case against Premkumar in Madurai court. The Lower court judge convicted both Premkumar and Nallakaman. However, it did not sentence either of them and warned both parties to maintain good conduct. Both parties filed individual appeals with the High Court against this verdict.

Nallakaman also asked the High Court to review the judment, especially the warning issued to Premkumar. Judge Selvam sentenced Prekumar along with 3 policemen for a month on April 3. Premkumar appealed in the Supreme Court against this verdict. The Supreme Court has exemped him from surrendering in the court.

Citing that SPPremkumar has been convicted of breaking the law, the Tamil Nadu Government has dismissed him.
