Kanchipuram, April 13th:

The Kanchi Acharya Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal’s petition seeking exemption from Court appearance on Wednesday citing religious duties was dismissed by Judge Uttamaraj.

Earlier, on Monday April 11th, Judge Uttamaraj had ordered that both the Kanchi Acharyas Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal and Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal must be present in the Court on Wednesday [April 13th].

However, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal petitioned the Court on Tuesday requesting exemption from appearance. The Acharya in his petition had explained about the Sri Rama Navami pooja currently being conducted daily at the Kalavai Mutt till April 17th. The Acharya also revealed that he has been fasting since April 8th as per the requirements of the pooja. As per the pooja regulations, he should not move out of Kalavai till the completion of the festival. The custom, followed for many centuries, should not be discontinued as it would wound religious feelings. Citing these reasons, the Acharya requested the Court to allow his lawyer to represent him.

However, Judge Uttamaraj dismissed the petition citing his earlier order on April 11th regarding Acharya’s appearance.
