DMK Govt diluting seer cases: Jaya
Tuesday September 12 2006 00:17 IST

CHENNAI: Former Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa on Monday accused the DMK Government of attempting to dilute the Sankararaman murder case in which the Kanchi Sankaracharyas Jayendra Saraswathi and Vijayendra Saraswathi are the prime accused.

‘‘The DMK Government is doing everything possible to dilute the case. It is only as a part of this that Superintendent of Police Prem Kumar, who had dilligently investigated the case, has now been suspended,’’ she said in a statement.

Jayalalithaa pointed out that at a time when the police were investigating into the murder of Sankararaman, the manager of Varadarajaperumal temple in Kancheepuram, a lot of speculative stories were being circulated and even the DMK and its president M Karunanidhi were alleging that there was delay in the arrest of the culprits.

It was after proper investigation that the investigating team, including Prem Kumar, had arrested Kanchi pontiffs Jayendra Saraswathi and Vijayendra Saraswathi. One of the accused, Ravi Subramaniam, had turned approver and the case was being tried by a court in Pondicherry.

She pointed out that the DMK Government had used the same approver Ravi Subramaniam to suspend Prem Kumar.

Jayalalithaa recalled that one of the senior leaders of the DMK and the present Cooperation Minister Ko Si Mani had met Jayendra Saraswathi shortly after the Assembly elections and had held secret talks with him.

She charged that the DMK had given a go by to the ideals of Dravidian leaders like Periyar and Annadurai and that the DMK headquarters Anna Arivalayam was dancing to the tunes of the Kanchi Mutt heads.

Jayalalithaa also charged that Karunanidhi was trying to shield his son MK Azhagiri, an accused in the murder of former DMK minister Tha Kiruttinan, and is currently out on bail.

She said that the DMK Government had foisted a case against Inspector Marimuthu, who had investigated the Kiruttinan murder case, and that he had now been suspended.

It was ironical, that when the murder accused Azhagiri was walking about freely, inspector Marimuthu, who is out on bail, had to report at a police station every day as a condition for the bail.

But the same DMK Government had used a different yardstick in the case of former home secretary Syed Munir Hoda.

Though a case had been proved against him, Hoda had been given the important post of secretary to the Chief Minister.

The DMK has given a go by to the ideals of Dravidian leaders like Periyar and Annadurai and Anna Arivalayam is dancing to the tunes of Kanchi mutt heads.
