Witch-hunt on against me: SP
Chennai, Sept. 12: Superintendent of Police K. Premkumar, who had investigated the Shankaraman murder case and was recently suspended, has moved the Madras high court seeking to stay the show cause notice issued against him in connection with a civil dispute 25 years ago.Mr. Premkumar in his petition has submitted that a show cause notice was issued to him on September 1, proposing his removal from service on the basis of a case, which led to his conviction for undue interference in a land dispute, which he had probed in Madurai in 1981 when he was sub-inspector.
Contending that if a person was found guilty of an offence and dealt with Section 3 of the Probation of Offenders Act, the conviction would not result in disqualification whatsoever, he said the government was indulging in witch-hunting against those police officers, who were perceived to be close to the previous government and it was clear that the show cause notice coming after a delay of three years was the result of malafides against him.
Also citing his present suspension issued on September 8 was also a pointer in this regard, he submitted that it was strange coincidence that he had met Ravi Subramanian, an approver in the Shankararaman murder case, while both of them were in hospital, and alleged that Subramanian’s statement against him was made under compulsion.
