NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Tamil Nadu government on a petition filed by Sankararaman murder case key accused K G Krishnaswamy alias Appu, seeking his release on bail.

The notice was issued by a division bench of Justice G P Mathur and Justice Dalveer Bhandari on Appu's petition challenging an order of the Madras High Court which had rejected his bail application on December nine last year.

Sankararaman was murdered in September 2004, allegedly at the behest of the Shankaracharya, who is facing trial along with Appu and 22 others.

On a petition filed by the Shankaracharya, the Supreme Court had earlier transferred the Sankararaman murder-case trial from Tamil Nadu to a Pondicherry court.
