Chennai, Sept. 8: The controversial superintendent of police, K. Premkumar, who arrested Kanchi Acharya Jayendra Saraswathi in connection with a murder case during the AIADMK regime, was placed under suspension by the DMK government on Friday. He was serving as vigilance officer, state transport corporation. According to sources the suspension came in the wake of his meeting with Ravi Subramanium, an approver in the Kanchi murder case a few days ago.
He had met Ravi Subramanium and allegedly offered him cash to escape from Tamil Nadu to scuttle the prosecution case, sources said. The Kanchi seer was arrested on November 11, 2004, in connection with the murder of Kancheepuram Varadaraja Perumal temple manager Sankararaman on September 3, the same year. Ravi Subramanium who had reportedly arranged the assassins on behalf of the seer, had turned approver after he was arrested by team led by Mr Premkumar.
