Tuesday April 5 2005 00:00 IST

CHENNAI: The Principal Sessions Court here has relaxed the condition stipulated earlier by it while granting advance bail to Kanchi acharya Jayendra Saraswati in the ‘Thirukottiyur Madhavan assault case.’

Principal Sessions Judge P Murugesan, while granting anticipatory bail to the Shankaracharya on February 24 last, had directed him to appear before the Judicial Magistrate-I in Kancheepuram on all Saturdays.

Seeking to relax this condition, the seer moved the PSJ, who granted the relief.

The Madras High Court had granted a similar plea from the Acharya in the ‘Ravi Subramaniam intimidation case’ last week.

Meanwhile, the junior pontiff, Vijayendra Saraswati, has moved the High Court to relax the condition stipulated earlier while granting bail to him in the Sankararaman murder case.

Justice M Thanikachalam, while granting bail to the junior pontiff on February 10, had directed him to report at the Thousand Lights police station in Chennai on all Sundays.

Seeking to relax this condition, the junior pontiff moved the Chennai High Court.

The seer now need not appear before the JM-I every Saturday.
