Saturday March 5 2005 00:00 IST
CHENNAI: Principal Sessions Judge P Murugesan on Friday modified the conditions stipulated earlier while granting anticipatory bail to Kanchi acharya Jayendra Saraswati.
While granting bail earlier, the PSJ had stipulated that the acharya, who apprehended arrest in the ‘Thirukottiyur Madhavan assault case’, should surrender before the Judicial Magistrate-I in Kanchi on or before March 10 and appear before the investigating officer on every Tuesday between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Seeking to modify the stipulations, the Acharya moved the PSG.
Granting the relief, the PSJ extended till March 14, the time for surrendering before the Kanchi Magistrate. He also permitted the acharya to appear before the IO on every Saturday between 2 and 3 p.m.
Meanwhile, Justice M Thanikachalam of the Madras High Court adjourned till Monday the hearing on the anticipatory bail application from the Acharya, who apprehended arrest in the ‘Approver Ravi Subramaniam inducement case,’ in which two women advocates were involved.
Since the PP was not satisfied with the materials available with him in the case, the matter was adjourned till Monday at his request, the judge said.
Earlier, the PP told the court that the investigation revealed that Viswanathan and Ramakrishnan, the brothers of the Acharya, were running several trusts and operating bank accounts involving several lakhs of rupees.
To a pointed question from the judge, the PP said the SIT would proceed against them also if the investigation revealed further evidence.
