Kanchi Shankaracharya arrives at Rameshwaram. Citizens offer a traditional welcome

Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal, Shankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, visited Rameshwaram where he was given a traditional welcome with poorna kumbam by the citizens of Rameshwaram. He travelled by a private plane from Coimbatore to Madurai and proceeded to Rameshwaram by car.
A grand reception and welcome were arranged near the Lakshmana Teertham. The reception committee under the leadership of Sitaram Das, administrator of Bajarangdas Baba Mutt included attorney Shadagopan, Dhanapal, President of Ramanathapuram Merchants Association, Madhavanur Krishnan, Muralidharan, BJP member, Kodur Ramani Shastri, Engineer Murugan, Jeyachandran and many others.
The Acharya was taken in a procession around the four Ratha streets to Shankara Mutt. Enroute, he was received with purna kumbam at Bhajarangdas Baba Annakshetram. As he entered the Shankara Mutt, Swamigal was received with deepa arati by ladies.
Manager Picchai, councilor Sundar, Anantapadmanabha Sharma and many other people received him at the mutt. Sri Jayendrar blessed and gave prasad to the pilgrims and other people gathered there.
On February 2nd, in the early hours of dawn, Sri Swamigal will be taking a holy bath in the sea at Agni Teertham along with gopura darshanam and then leave for Dhanushkoti where he will take another holy bath at the confluence of Rathnakaram and Mahodhadhi. Later he will leave for Madurai.
